> question/suggestion: how about moving this port into its own repository, e.g. `RIOT-OS/micropython-riot`, with a fixed RIOT version a submodule (dependency)? With that we can improve the port step-by-step without messing with the RIOT-OS main repo?

Hm, the port has two sides:

1. integration in RIOT main tree, that is what this PR does
2. adding the port to upstream. The MicroPython side is currently located in a fork of upstream into my github name.

IMO, moving the micropython fork (2.) to RIOT-OS/micropython makes sense. Having a RIOT fork for 1. doesn't.

The port is actually in quite good shape. I managed to get the upstream test suite to execute (instructions included), as expected, most tests pass unless using modules that are not compiled in or using unavailable peripheral APIs. I'd say at this point this is as usable as jerryscript or lua.
