I've run a couple of the tests on my SAML21-xpro. I didn't have any problem with most of them and that was looking very good.

Just one is not passing anymore and may show a timing criticality for this change: `tests/periph_rtt`. The test writes a "Hello" every 5 secs.
While it consistently passes on trunk, it seems to consistenly fail with this change branch. Can you maybe check on your side too?

Funny enough it looks like the first `Hello` is printed before the `Done setting up the RTT, wait for many Hellos` so that makes the test fail. Otherwise later on the timings look roughly correct.

Relevant output on this branch:
```
Initializing the RTT driver
RTT now: 0
Setting initial alarm to now + 5 s (163840)
Hello
Done setting up the RTT, wait for many Hellos
```
master:
```
Initializing the RTT driver
RTT now: 0
Setting initial alarm to now + 5 s (163840)
Done setting up the RTT, wait for many Hellos
Hello
```

To reproduce should be just:
```
cd tests/periph_rtt
BOARD=saml21-xpro make all flash test
```

Ahh I see now: the RTT code is quite different, as the one on your branch is still the one before the unification by @benpicco . Can you maybe rebase and I can try again?
