I'm trying to understand what's wrong in my original idea of a two-layered approach. I plan to implement the physical RF layer first - basically, the driver as it is now - and then add an optional gnrc interface on top of it.

My reckoning was that in some situations using the networking part could avoided, so I'd like to leave the option. But granted, I don't have the same level of field expertise you have - so I might be totally off with my assumption.

Glad to hear it! I've been also taken away from this for quite a while, alas.

In the meantime, Microchip finally liberated the programming specs for the radio - which were under NDA at the time I've started coding on it.

Maybe there is a chance that someone with skills better than mine could jump in and help me put things in good shape :-)
